Nux is made from what is sometimes called the poison nut tree, which grows in India and Southeast Asia. The dried seeds, which contain Strychnia and Brucia, are used. The person needing Nux is oversensitive to everything (what we would call a nervous temperament), and this oversensitiveness usually results in feelings of anger. Touch, noise, lights... really every impression is intolerable. There may be sudden striking out in anger which can even be violent.
The typical constitutional picture of Nux is the businessperson who puts all of their energy into their work. They may behave like "nice Nux" at work, but turn into "nasty Nux" when they arrive at home and allow themselves to unleash the frustration of the day on their family. This person is likely to be mostly sedentary and involved in office work.
Nux is sometimes called the hangover remedy, as it is helpful in clearing poisons from the body. Nux can also be used in stomach issues where the patient wishes they could throw up. It is sometimes said that Nux "wants to, but can't". This also applies to insomnia. Think of the last time you laid in bed attempting to sleep but no matter what you did sleep just didn't come. Every time you looked at the clock you had feelings of anger because only a few minutes had passed and you felt you would never get to sleep! That is a Nux state.
