One criticism often directed at homeopathy is that we don’t know how it works. This is true. We know it works through vast amounts of clinical experience confirming that it does, individual experiences, and studies supporting its efficacy. But we do not fully understand the mechanism of action. Were you aware that we also do not know how a very large number of allopathic medications work? Examples include Lithium (a mood stabilizer), Metformin (a drug for Diabetes), Acetaminophen, Antidepressants, and many others. Given this, it’s interesting that opponents would choose to make this argument.
The emerging field of nanotechnology shows potential to further our understanding of homeopathy. Nanoparticles are exceedingly tiny. Much smaller than our cells. Current research and development is focusing on using these tiny medicines to create individualized treatments. Sound familiar?
Conventional research has also discovered that lactose (the basis of homeopathic remedy pellets) is a very effective carrier of nanoparticles to the cells. This research has also shown that pharmaceutical grade water (the same used in homeopathic preparations) becomes embedded with the nanoparticles in the container. Interesting, considering this is an essential part of manufacturing homeopathic medicines.
It will be interesting to see where this new field of study takes us! If you’d like to read more, follow these links:
Materia Medica:

Kali bichromicum (Kali-b): The person needing this remedy tends to be very structured and detailed. They will normally complain only of physical issues and not emotional. Pains tend to be localized to small spots. When asked where it hurts, they will point to a very specific area. There is a good deal of sinusitis, both acute and chronic. The discharge is thick and often yellow and stringy. This is a generally chilly person who feels worse when they are exposed to the cold.
