Post Hurricane Musings

Writer's picture: JenJen

I apologize for the late arrival of your newsletter! My family and I were in the path of Hurricane Ian and evacuated prior to its arrival. We were extremely fortunate and found only minimal damage to our neighborhood upon our return and our house fully intact. Unfortunately, so many others were not so lucky. The track change in the last hours sent it into an area south of us. Hundreds of people needed rescue and the death toll continues to rise as crews search through the damage.

What I notice now is what I notice after every disaster. Good people. So many of them. They come together to help their neighbors, to help those who have nothing left. They do it without complaint and with their whole hearts. It’s who we are if you strip away the politics, the meaningless arguments, the things that don’t matter. My wish for all of us is for us to find this place of help and peace and be here even when there is no disaster.

If you’d like to help, please donate to the Red Cross or to the Florida Disaster Fund.
