What Should You Have in Your First Aid Kit?

I never go anywhere without my remedies, but I can’t take all of them with me; there would be no room to pack anything else! So what are the essential remedies I keep with me? First of all, I always have the constitutional remedies for myself and every member of my family, including pets, if they are going with us. I also bring remedies I might need in an urgent situation. You can develop your own list according to remedies that work best for you and your family, or you can use mine.

Aconite (Acon) for ailments that come on suddenly or after being out in a cold wind. It’s also very useful for states of shock after a physical or emotional shock or trauma.

Apis (Ap) for insect bites which swell a great deal and have stinging pains. The area looks red and is hot. It can also be used for an allergic reaction with similar symptoms.

Arnica (Arn) is useful for injuries to the soft tissues which involve bruising. This is another remedy good for states of shock. The person may insist they are fine when they are clearly not.

Arsenicum album (Ars) is a good remedy for gastric distress. There might be burning diarrhea or vomiting along with strong restlessness and anxiety. One of the first remedies to think of in food poisoning.

Belladonna (Bell) works well for complaints that come on suddenly. Fevers tend to be high and sudden, with heat radiating off the person. Good for sunstroke and red, swollen, painful, and hot skin conditions.

Bryonia (Bry) is useful for headaches when the person wants to be left alone in a dark room. Any motion aggravates the pain. It is also helpful in a cold or flu when movement makes everything worse.

Calendula can be used externally as a tincture or a cream to speed healing of wounds or abrasions. It can also be used as a mouthwash for sores or cuts in the mouth.

Gelsemium sempervirens (Gels) is helpful for headaches or illness when the person feels their head is so heavy they can’t manage to lift it off the pillow. There is great fatigue and weakness.

Hepar sulph (Hep) is good for abscesses or wounds which are extremely painful and infected. The person will be easily aggravated emotionally and very sensitive to all stimuli, particularly pain.

Hypericum (Hyp) is good for addressing injuries to parts which are rich in nerve endings, such as fingertips, toes, teeth, and eyes. Pains are shooting.

Ledum (Led) is also good for insect bites when the area feels cold. Despite the coldness, heat aggravates and cold ameliorates the symptoms. Ledum is also good for injuries which similarly feel cold, or when the patient feels cold all over but feels better with ice or cold bathing.

Nux vomica (Nux) is helpful for upset stomachs due to overindulgence in food and/or alcohol. Someone needed this remedy is very irritable.

Rhus toxicodendron (Rhus-t) works for muscle and joint pain which is better with motion. It is also one of the top remedies for shingles and for chicken pox.

Silica (Sil) is well known for its ability to help the body expel foreign objects such as splinters. The person likely feels weak and chilly.
